IN THE LAND OF BAOBAB TREES
In 2008, I returned to Africa and experienced the perfect trip in Botswana: beautiful camps; abundant wildlife, in particular predators; ideal weather; extraordinary guides; and perfect companions. More so on this trip than others, I really did not have a clear direction on where to take the photos.
One day, after completing Diné Bikéyah, I was looking through the ten thousand plus pictures from the trip. I noticed that numerous shots reminded me of stop-action sports photos. I liked the B&W feel of Diné, so I started experimenting with translating a group of images into high contrast B&W. I was pleased and kept going. In the end, I decided to limit the work to seventeen vertical and seventeen horizontal 17” by 25” prints.
While I love all of the African works, In the Land of Baobab Tree stands alone in terms of pure focus on the wild creatures.
